Creating forms

Build a signup form that matches your brand and starts collecting subscribers right away, with its own page on XOXO and a confirmation email built in.

Forms are the signup pages people use to join your audience. You build and edit them from Forms, and each one is live at its own landing page as soon as it exists. People who sign up confirm by email before they’re added (see the confirmation email). You can start collecting signups before sending is set up, but you’ll need it finished before your first email. The form editor needs a bigger screen, so on a phone XOXO asks you to switch to a computer.

Create a form

  1. Open Forms.
  2. Select the add button.

The new form opens in the editor with its landing page and success page already filled in, using the design from your most recent form.

Customize a form

Each form has its own design, fields, and tags. The editor has a panel on each side: design on the left, settings on the right. Changes save as you make them.

Edit the landing and success pages

  1. Open Forms and select the form.
  2. At the top of the editor, choose Landing or Success.
  3. Edit that page’s blocks on the canvas. Blocks work the same way they do when writing an email.

To preview the form as a popup, open the Landing menu and choose Popup.

Change the design

  1. Select the design button in the upper left.
  2. Choose the background, text, and accent colors and the header and body fonts. Buttons and links use the accent color.
  3. Optional: turn on Cover image to put an image beside the form, then adjust Placement, Rounding, and Margin.
  4. Optional: turn Referral badge on or off. The referral program explains what it does.

Choose the fields

In the design panel, use Fields to choose which fields the form asks for, in what order, and which are required. Email is always there and always required.

Style the submit button

Select the form block on the landing page. Its style panel has a Fields group for the inputs (background, border, rounding, and padding) and a Button group for the submit button (placement, background, border, rounding, and padding). The Fill and Outline presets change how the inputs are drawn, and the Text group sets the type for both. Edit the button text on the canvas. It starts as Subscribe.

Tag everyone who joins through a form

  1. Select the settings button in the upper right.
  2. Under Tags, choose the tags to apply to everyone who joins through the form.

The Landing page, Embed, and Search engines settings in the same panel are covered in sharing forms and embedding forms.

Duplicate a form

Select the form’s actions menu on the Forms page, then select Duplicate. The copy keeps the original’s design, pages, fields, tags, and search engine setting, and gets its own landing page address.

Delete a form

  1. Open Forms.
  2. Select the form’s actions menu.
  3. Select Delete.
  4. Select Delete again to confirm.

Caution

Deleting a form is permanent. Its landing page and any embeds of it stop working, and it’s removed from any group filters that use it. Subscribers who joined through it stay in your audience.

If a scheduled email is addressed to a group that uses the form, change that email’s audience first. XOXO won’t delete the form until you do.

Paused forms

A paused form shows a Paused badge on the Forms page and a note above the editor. People can still sign up through it, but the confirmation email for each signup is held, so nobody joins your audience until the form is resumed. Nothing is deleted, and your form’s design and settings stay as they are.

You can’t resume a form yourself. To get it resumed, email help@xoxo.email. See the Acceptable Use Policy for what forms are expected to do.

Confirmation email

When someone signs up, XOXO sends a short consent message in your form’s design: a header, text, the Confirm subscription button, and a footer. They join your audience when they select the button. There’s nothing to edit.

Next, share the landing page or embed the form on your own site.
