AI agents

Connect Claude, ChatGPT, or another AI app so it can draft emails, build signup forms, and tidy your audience. It can't send to subscribers.

You can connect an AI app you already use to your XOXO account. That can be an assistant like Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini, a productivity app like Notion or Raycast, or an automation tool like Make or Zapier. Agents live in Settings, which opens from the actions menu in the lower left, and any team member can connect one.

Connect an agent

  1. Open Settings and find Agents.
  2. Select the add button, then choose your AI app, or Another app for any other.
  3. Follow the steps XOXO shows for that app, including the address to paste in.
  4. When the app sends you to XOXO, sign in, choose the account, and approve the connection.

Any AI app that supports custom connectors, also called MCP servers, can connect. Some apps offer custom connectors only on their own paid accounts, or have a team admin add the connector first. XOXO’s steps for that app say so.

Open a chat from XOXO

Once you’ve connected a chat app like Claude or ChatGPT, select the actions button on an email, a form, a subscriber, a group, or your audience, then choose Open in and the app’s name. It starts a new chat about what you were looking at. The agent takes a look and asks what you’d like to do, so nothing changes until you say so.

Remove an agent

The person who connected an agent, or the account owner, can remove it. Every agent connected to your account shows up in Settings, under Agents, along with the team member who connected it. Removing a team member removes any agents they connected too.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Find the agent under Agents.
  3. Select the delete button, then select Remove.

What agents can and can’t do

An agent can work across your account:

  • Emails: read your drafts and sent emails with their stats, write, design, duplicate, and delete drafts, and send a test to you or your team.
  • Design: match the look of a screenshot you give it, or of a past newsletter from its “View in browser” link, or recreate that newsletter as a draft with its words, images, and links. It can save the styles it matches so future emails and forms can reuse them.
  • Forms: create, design, duplicate, and delete signup forms, including the fields they ask for.
  • Audience: find subscribers and add, edit, or remove them one at a time, tag subscribers in bulk, and manage your groups, tags, and custom fields.
  • Settings: edit your account name, physical address, privacy policy, and open and click tracking, and check your sending domain and walk you through adding its DNS records, the settings at your domain provider that let your emails send from your own address.

An agent can’t send or schedule an email to your subscribers, import subscribers, or delete them in bulk. It also can’t change your sending email, your team, or billing, or delete your account. Only you can do that.

An agent can see your subscribers the way you do in XOXO, including their email addresses, custom fields, and tags. What it reads goes to the AI app you connected, and that app’s own terms cover it. See AI features in our Terms.

Example requests

Once an agent is connected, you can ask it things like:

  • “Here’s a screenshot of my old newsletter. Make my next email look like it.”
  • “Here’s the link to my last Mailchimp newsletter. Recreate it as a draft.”
  • “Build me a signup form in my brand colors, and ask for their first name too.”
  • “Send me a test.”
  • “Which of my last 10 emails had the best click rate?”
  • “Tag everyone who joined this month as new.”
  • “Make a group of subscribers who haven’t opened an email in three months.”
